The West Bengal Police have confirmed the arrest of all five accused in the alleged gang rape case of a private medical college student in Durgapur. The latest development comes after two more suspects were taken into custody on Monday, completing the list of those named in the survivor&rsquo;s complaint.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Asansol-Durgapur) Abhisekh Gupta said that all five accused are now in custody, and further investigation is underway. Earlier on Sunday, three individuals were arrested in connection with the case.
The survivor, a second-year MBBS student originally from Jaleswar in Odisha, was allegedly assaulted outside the college campus on Friday night. According to police, she had gone out for dinner with a friend when the incident occurred.
The student is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital where she studies and has recorded her statement with the authorities.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage, especially following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee&rsquo;s controversial comment questioning why the survivor was out late at night.
