The wife of Imam Hafeez Mohammad Ishtiaq of Al-Falah Mosque in Faridabad has denied any connection between her husband and the terror module linked to the Delhi car blast. She claimed that the accused doctors in the case befriended their family and misled him.
Ishtiaq was detained after investigators seized more than 2,540 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulphur during a major anti-terror operation at his home in Fatehpur Taga. He has since been taken to Srinagar for questioning in the Red Fort blast case, which killed 12 people and injured several others on November 10.
According to his wife, Hasina, the allegations are baseless. She said the accused doctors, including Dr Muzammil, built a relationship with her husband through the mosque and gradually gained his trust. Muzammil later rented a room at their Fatehpur Taga house for a small amount, claiming he needed space to store personal belongings. Additional explosives weighing nearly 360 kg were also recovered from another room in Dhauj village, rented by Muzammil. She also stated that Dr Umar, believed to be driving the car that exploded, visited the mosque regularly.
Following the blast, security agencies intensified searches in Faridabad, especially around Al-Falah Hospital and University. Three doctors, Dr Umar, Dr Muzammil, and Dr Shaheen Shahid, along with Imam Ishtiaq and HR staffer Jameel, have been arrested.
Hasina said her husband has served at the mosque for nearly 20 years, starting with a salary of ₹2,000. The university&rsquo;s mosque currently pays him around ₹10,000 a month. She said their family also supplied milk daily to several doctors, including Muzammil, who had been on leave for the past 20 days.
Her family&rsquo;s land in Fatehpur Taga was purchased years ago, where they built a house in 2012. Hasina recalled that police arrived the morning after the blast and took her husband into custody while she was returning from work in the fields.
Their seven-year-old son also maintained his father&rsquo;s innocence, saying the family had not been informed of any clear charges.
Meanwhile, investigations continue on the Al-Falah University campus, where students and staff are being questioned. The Association of Indian Universities has suspended the university&rsquo;s membership, citing concerns about its credibility, and ordered it to remove the AIU name and logo from all platforms.
