An Air India flight en route from Hong Kong to Delhi was forced to return mid-air on Monday after the pilot detected a possible technical fault, raising fresh concerns over aviation safety.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had already taken off and was cruising toward its destination when the issue was identified. The pilot decided to return to Hong Kong as a precautionary measure. The flight landed safely, and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew. The specific nature of the fault has not yet been disclosed.
This incident comes just days after a catastrophic Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed nearly 275 lives, including 241 passengers, 12 crew members, and several people on the ground. The doomed flight, also a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was bound for London&rsquo;s Gatwick airport but crashed shortly after takeoff, striking a doctors' hostel at BJ Medical College.
Only one passenger, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British citizen of Indian origin, survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Amidst ongoing investigations into both incidents, questions are being raised about the airline&rsquo;s maintenance and pre-flight safety protocols.
In the aftermath of the Ahmedabad tragedy, Air India publicly expressed gratitude to the Central and Gujarat governments for their assistance. The airline also praised the dedication of medical professionals, students, and support staff at Civil Hospital and Rajasthan Hospital in Ahmedabad.
Acknowledging the Tata Group&rsquo;s involvement, Air India said its teams have been actively supporting the victims&rsquo; families, ensuring all necessary aid during this difficult time.
