The funeral of Clive Kunder, the co-pilot of Air India Flight AI-171 that tragically crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, was held on Thursday at Sewri Christian Cemetery in Mumbai.
The mortal remains of the 34-year-old pilot were flown into Mumbai airport, then brought to his residence on Ram Mandir Road in Goregaon (West), where friends, neighbours, and relatives gathered to pay their final respects.
Kunder lived with his elderly parents and younger sister, who were visibly heartbroken as mourners surrounded his portrait, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. The body remained at the family residence until 1 p.m., before being taken for burial at 2:30 p.m..
Kunder was part of the crew on AI-171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London&rsquo;s Gatwick Airport, which crashed shortly after takeoff, striking the B.J. Medical College Hostel near the airport perimeter. The fiery crash claimed over 270 lives, including crew, passengers, and people on the ground. Only one passenger survived the horrific incident.
Neighbour Sadhiya shared, "It felt like a personal loss. Clive was cheerful, friendly, and well-loved. The crowd at his funeral shows how special he was to so many."
As per the DGCA, the ill-fated flight was captained by Sumeet Sabharwal, while Kunder had logged over 1,100 hours of flying time.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat government confirmed progress in DNA identification, with 206 matches confirmed and 169 bodies handed over to grieving families.
The tragedy continues to send shockwaves across the country, with tributes pouring in for the lives lost and support for the affected families.
