Ahmedabad, India, has officially secured the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following a final approval at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, Scotland. The announcement marks a landmark achievement for India as the 2030 edition coincides with the centenary year of the Games, celebrating a century of global sporting collaboration and progress.
India&rsquo;s winning proposal, themed &ldquo;New Age Games for a New Century,&rdquo; received strong support for its modern vision, inclusive planning and commitment to sustainability. The bid aligns with Commonwealth Sport&rsquo;s Games Reset framework, which emphasises affordability, flexibility and long-term legacy value.
Ahmedabad&rsquo;s blueprint for the Games focuses on a compact and athlete-first layout. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, one of Asia&rsquo;s largest multi-sport hubs, will anchor the event. Additional venues such as the Gujarat Police Academy in Karai and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex will support hosting, backed by upgraded transport systems, advanced accommodations and robust digital infrastructure. The Games will integrate para-sports and prioritise renewable energy, low-emission mobility and zero-waste systems.
The event is expected to accelerate Gujarat&rsquo;s emergence as India&rsquo;s leading sports destination, driving large-scale urban development, boosting tourism and generating new economic opportunities. National reforms, including the National Sports Policy 2025, National Sports Governance Act 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025, are providing structural support for improved governance and athlete welfare.
The proposal was presented in Glasgow by a coordinated delegation of senior officials from the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat and the Commonwealth Games Association of India (CGA India). Their unified pitch played a decisive role in securing global approval.
Leaders from India and the Commonwealth hailed the decision as a milestone for both the nation and the future of the Games. They emphasised that Ahmedabad hosting will showcase India&rsquo;s rising global stature, its commitment to inclusive development and its focus on creating sustainable, future-ready sporting events.
