The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Monday suspended Advocate Rakesh Kishore following an unruly incident in which he allegedly hurled a sports shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai inside the Supreme Court during the morning session.
According to the statement issued by the BCI, disciplinary action was taken against the 71-year-old advocate after the courtroom disturbance, which prompted an immediate security response. Personnel deployed at the apex court swiftly restrained Kishore, escorted him out of Court No. 1, and placed him in custody.
Eyewitnesses present during the hearing stated that while being removed from the courtroom, the advocate shouted, &ldquo;Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan.&rdquo;
Despite the disruption, Chief Justice Gavai chose to proceed with the case, remarking that he was &ldquo;the last person to be affected by such things.&rdquo;
In a statement later in the day, Delhi Police confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m. and that Kishore, a resident of Mayur Vihar and a registered member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, was subsequently handed over to the Supreme Court&rsquo;s security unit for further action.
The BCI has termed the conduct as gross professional misconduct and stated that it would not tolerate any behaviour undermining the dignity of the judiciary or the sanctity of court proceedings.
