A fatal collision on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Amethi district claimed five lives early Sunday morning. A high-speed ambulance crashed into a pickup truck from behind near milestone 59.700 in the Shukul Bazaar area, leaving five people dead on the spot and one critically injured.
The ambulance was transporting the body of Ashok Sharma from Nuh, Haryana, to Samastipur, Bihar. On board were two Haryana-based drivers, Sarfaraz and Mahabir, along with four family members of the deceased: Satish Sharma, Ravi Sharma, Phulo Sharma, and Shambhu Rai.
The violent impact completely mangled both vehicles. Sarfaraz, Mahabir, Satish, Ravi, and Phulo died instantly, while Shambhu Rai was hospitalised with injuries. Police teams arrived swiftly, retrieved the bodies for post-mortem, and cleared the road with crane assistance.
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. and is under investigation to determine the cause. Authorities are reviewing road safety measures and traffic monitoring on the expressway following the tragic incident.
