Four people lost their lives and one was seriously injured after their car skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Rahninala, close to Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Sunday.
The accident occurred during heavy rainfall, which has battered the region for days. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Manali) KD Sharma confirmed the incident and stated that the rescue operations were ongoing. The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over the &ldquo;heart-wrenching&rdquo; incident and assured that the injured would receive proper medical care. &ldquo;I pray for strength to the bereaved families and a swift recovery for the injured,&rdquo; he wrote on X.
Due to incessant rainfall, many parts of Himachal remain cut off. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 39 roads in Kullu, especially in Banjar and Nirmand subdivisions, are currently blocked.
The tragedy adds to a growing toll this monsoon season, with over 70 fatalities recorded across the state, including accidents and rain-related deaths.
Officials have urged people to avoid non-essential travel, especially in landslide-prone zones. A 24x7 emergency helpline (1070) has been activated for public assistance.
