Three Class 6 students from Bishop Cotton School, one of Asia&rsquo;s oldest and most prestigious boys&rsquo; boarding schools established in 1859, have gone missing under mysterious circumstances during a weekly day out in Shimla.
One of the boys is from Mohali and is related to a Punjab minister, another belongs to a prominent business family in Karnal, Haryana, and the third is from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
According to police, the boys had gone to Mall Road for shopping on Saturday along with other students. While the rest of the group returned to the school, these three did not.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi said special teams have been deployed to locate the children, with assistance sought from Delhi and Haryana Police. Checkpoints at entry and exit points of Shimla, including Shoghi on the Shimla-Chandigarh highway, are being closely monitored.
While it is suspected that the boys may have gone somewhere without informing anyone, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of kidnapping. CCTV footage shows them in different parts of the city, particularly on Mall Road, before they disappeared.
Bishop Cotton School is known for hosting students from across India and abroad. Weekly Saturday outings are part of the school routine, but the disappearance of these three students has raised serious concerns about safety measures.
