A 10-year-old girl who suffered critical injuries in a stray dog attack in Karnataka&rsquo;s Bagalkot district has died while undergoing treatment, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The child, identified as Alaina Lokapur, was attacked by a stray dog in Sector No. 15 of Navanagar, Bagalkot, last week. She sustained severe facial injuries, particularly around the mouth and eyes. She was first taken to the Bagalkot District Hospital and later shifted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubballi, for advanced medical care.
Despite intensive treatment and sustained medical efforts, doctors were unable to save her due to the extent and severity of the injuries. Officials stated that the child remained unresponsive to treatment as the wounds were critical.
Bagalkot City Municipal Corporation Commissioner R Vasanna said the girl&rsquo;s family would be given a compensation of ₹5 lakh. He expressed deep regret over the incident and stated that stronger measures would be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
According to civic authorities, steps to control the stray dog population have been intensified following Supreme Court interventions. Rehabilitation centres have been set up in parts of the district, and nearly 1,000 stray dogs have been sterilised and relocated as part of ongoing measures.
The incident has raised serious concerns over civic accountability and stray dog management, with local authorities acknowledging lapses despite ongoing eradication and control drives.
