Udaipur Files, a film based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiyalal in Udaipur, hit 4,500 screens nationwide on Friday, including three locations in Udaipur: Celebration Mall, Urban Square, and Lake City Mall. Each venue is hosting just one show, with police deployed to ensure law and order.
Kanhaiyalal&rsquo;s sons, Yash and Tarun Teli, attended the premiere carrying their father&rsquo;s photograph. Yash urged people to watch the film, which he said exposes the &ldquo;terrorist mindset&rdquo; behind his father&rsquo;s killing.
The film, directed by Bharat S. Srinate and produced by Amit Jani, stars Vijay Raaz as Kanhaiyalal, with Rajneesh Duggal and Preeti Jhangiani in pivotal roles.
Security was tightened, with SP Yogesh Goyal, ASP Umesh Ojha, and Sukher CI Ravindra Singh Charan inspecting venues. Viewer documents were checked before entry.
Originally scheduled for July 11, the release was delayed after petitions in the Delhi High Court by religious groups and accused Mohammad Javed. The court ordered a review under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act. After clearance from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and approval from a review committee, the Supreme Court allowed its release.
Filmmaker Amit Jani stressed the movie intends to portray the incident without targeting any community. The film is now trending on social media, with supporters urging the public to watch it.
