The 34-year-old Democratic Socialist assemblymember from Queens also becomes the youngest New York mayor in more than a century. His campaign gained strong momentum after a decisive 12-point victory in the Democratic primary earlier this year.
Despite challenges, including criticism from national political figures and shifting party endorsements, Mamdani maintained steady voter support. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump just before the election, trailed behind in the final count.
