A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Shamli district, where a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and their two minor daughters and burying their bodies inside his house, police said.
The accused, identified as Farooq, worked as a cook at wedding functions and lived in Garhi Daulat village in the Kandla area along with his wife Tahira and their five children. The crime is believed to have been committed on the night of December 10.
According to police, the incident came to light after Farooq&rsquo;s father approached authorities, reporting that Tahira and two of her daughters had been missing for nearly six days. When questioned, Farooq allegedly gave evasive answers, claiming that his wife and daughters were staying in a rented accommodation in Shamli.
Superintendent of Police Narendra Pratap Singh said investigations revealed that Farooq argued with his wife around a month earlier over household expenses. Tahira had accused him of not providing adequate financial support for the family. Following the dispute, she went to her parental home in Muzaffarnagar.
Police said Farooq was enraged by his wife&rsquo;s decision to step out without wearing a burqa. On the night of December 10, he allegedly shot Tahira dead. When their daughters, Afreen (14) and Sahreen (7), witnessed the incident, he allegedly killed them as well to prevent disclosure of the crime.
During interrogation, Farooq allegedly confessed to the murders. Police then excavated the house, where the bodies of Tahira and the two children were recovered.
Tahira&rsquo;s father told police that his daughter had been subjected to prolonged harassment. He said several village-level panchayats were convened in an attempt to resolve the disputes, but social pressure forced the family to send her back each time.
A case of murder has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances surrounding the crime.
