<p data-start="111" data-end="347"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Kolkata Police have arrested three Nigerian nationals, including a woman, for allegedly duping a Kolkata resident of over ₹1 crore by posing as representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and a private pharmaceutical company.</span></p>
<p data-start="349" data-end="683"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">According to senior police officials, the accused used fake email IDs and contacted the victim through WhatsApp using a UK-based number to win his trust. The accused have been identified as Peter Mercy Oloumi alias Sophia, Kimeku Kailings, and Alexander Divine. All three were apprehended during a recent operation conducted in Delhi.</span></p>
<p data-start="685" data-end="910"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Investigations revealed that the accused used foreign phone numbers and Nigerian IP addresses to carry out the fraud. They reportedly created forged logos and seals of WHO and the pharmaceutical company to deceive the victim.</span></p>
<p data-start="912" data-end="1080"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The police seized 12 smartphones, three basic phones, a router, and a laptop during the raid. The laptop was found to have been used for fabricating the fake documents.</span></p>
<p data-start="1082" data-end="1309"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The case came to light in May after the victim filed a complaint with the Kolkata Cyber Police Station. He alleged that the fraudsters had gained his confidence by showing him fake documents before defrauding him of ₹1.1 crore.</span></p>
<p data-start="1311" data-end="1661"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">During the investigation, the police traced several WhatsApp accounts used in the scam. Although the numbers appeared to be from the United Kingdom, they were accessed through a device with a Nigerian IP address, and the same accounts were found to be active in Delhi. Using this information, Kolkata Police carried out the raid and made the arrests.</span></p>
<p data-start="1663" data-end="1757" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the fraud network.</span></p>
