Three men have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for allegedly harassing a woman over several kilometres on a main road in Bengaluru, following the circulation of a video of the incident on social media. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night and came to light after a witness shared video evidence online.
Based on the video and the complaint, the SG Palya police registered a First Information Report and identified the accused as Roshan (19), Ayan (19) and Rihan Khan (18). The motorcycle allegedly used during the harassment was also identified as part of the investigation. Police confirmed that appropriate legal action was initiated promptly after the matter was brought to their attention.
The complainant, who witnessed the incident, stated that he noticed a group of men harassing a woman for several kilometres late in the evening. He recorded the incident as evidence and intervened, after which the accused fled the spot. He subsequently shared the video on social media and tagged city police authorities, urging immediate action.
Police confirmed that the accused were arrested soon after and remanded to judicial custody. The case remains under further investigation.
In a separate but recent incident highlighting similar concerns, another man was arrested by Bengaluru police for allegedly harassing a young woman after repeatedly forcing her into a relationship. The accused had initially contacted the woman through social media and later began following her, verbally abusing her, physically assaulting her, and attempting to tear her clothes.
According to the complaint, the incident escalated on December 22 when the accused went to the paying guest accommodation where the woman was staying and assaulted her by hitting her on the head, back and neck before fleeing the scene. A case was registered the same day under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to crimes against women and criminal intimidation.
Police acted swiftly and arrested the accused within 24 hours. Senior police officials and local officers were involved in the investigation and arrest, and further inquiries are underway to ensure strict action against those responsible.
