A chilling case of domestic violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Shamli district, where a 33 year old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and two minor daughters and burying their bodies inside his home.
Police said the accused, Farooq, confessed to killing his wife Tahira, 32, after she defied what he described as &ldquo;strict purdah&rdquo; and stepped out of the house without wearing a burqa. According to investigators, Farooq imposed severe restrictions on his wife&rsquo;s movement and appearance, insisting she remain indoors and follow rigid norms whenever she stepped outside.
The situation worsened following a heated argument over household expenses. Tahira had reportedly complained that she was not given enough money to manage daily needs. After the dispute, she went to her parents&rsquo; home in a nearby village without adhering to the restrictions imposed on her, a decision that police say enraged Farooq.
On the night of December 10, the accused allegedly shot Tahira dead. He then killed their two daughters, aged 14 and 7, after they witnessed the murder. The bodies were later buried inside the house in an attempt to hide the crime.
Police described the killings as exceptionally brutal. One of the daughters was found with severe injuries, including an eye gouged out, and a blood stained wooden stick was recovered from the scene. Investigators suspect the stick was used to assault the child.
Farooq worked as a cook at wedding functions and lived separately from his parents in the same village, along with his wife and five children. Though he was not on speaking terms with his parents, suspicion arose when Tahira and the two daughters were not seen for several days.
When questioned, Farooq allegedly told his father that his wife and children were staying in a rented house. Unsatisfied with the explanation, the father alerted the police, fearing something was wrong.
A search of the house led to the recovery of the bodies and Farooq&rsquo;s arrest. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and the case has once again highlighted the deadly consequences of extreme control, domestic abuse, and violence within families.
