A shocking and deeply disturbing case has surfaced in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai, where a minor girl, a tenth-grade student, has filed a police complaint accusing her own mother and a male neighbour of coercing her into prostitution. The two individuals have been officially booked by the Mumbai Police.

In her complaint, the young girl alleged that her mother and the neighbour had compelled her to engage in prostitution as a means of earning money. This exploitation reportedly took place from April until the day she came forward to report the incident.
The victim shared her painful ordeal with her schoolteacher. She had also attempted to escape the abuse once by running away and staying at a friend&rsquo;s house for three days. However, upon returning home, she was allegedly beaten and immediately forced back into the despicable act by the two accused.
<h3>Girl Seeks Help</h3>
A police officer involved in the case stated that the young girl decided to report the matter after the abuse became unbearable. Driven by desperation, she confided in a friend. With the friend's encouragement and support, she then approached her class teacher and narrated the harrowing tale.
The teacher was profoundly shaken by the gravity of the girl's narrative and promptly informed the school authorities about the serious and sensitive situation. Recognising the urgency, the school administration swiftly contacted the local police station.
<h3>Police Action and Investigation</h3>
Based on the complaint, the victim's mother and the man were booked under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 64 (rape) and Section 98 (selling child for prostitution). Charges have also been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Given the serious nature of the allegations and the victim's age, the police have immediately launched a thorough investigation into the matter.

While the legal framework surrounding prostitution in India is complex, with the act itself being neither completely illegal nor fully legalised, related activities are heavily penalised.
