The body of a 40-year-old woman was discovered on Saturday in a maize field in Tahsipur Thatia village, raising concerns of a violent crime. Police said she appeared to have been physically assaulted before being killed and dumped.
According to senior police officer Vinod Kumar, injuries were visible on the woman&rsquo;s face and other parts of her body, suggesting a brutal attack.
The body was first noticed by a local farmer, Ramvilas, early in the morning. Blood stains were found in two separate locations near the body, and her broken bangles indicated a possible struggle.
While a forensic team was called to examine the scene, police said it looked like a clear case of murder. However, a post-mortem will confirm whether the woman was sexually assaulted before being killed.
Officials noted that while her blouse and petticoat were intact, the victim&rsquo;s saree was missing, raising suspicions of an attempt to disrobe her. Some villagers also claimed that her earrings seemed to have been snatched, though the police have not confirmed if robbery was a motive.
The investigation is ongoing, and officers are exploring all possible angles&mdash;ranging from family disputes and property issues to other motives.
In a related incident, the same police station in Thatia was recently in the spotlight due to a gruesome case of honour killing.
In that case, Mahendra Jatav confessed to murdering his teenage daughter with the help of relatives in Asare village to frame her lover. He had even filed a false missing report in February to mislead police. After killing her, he reportedly burned the body in a nearby forest and paid two individuals ₹70,000 to dispose of the remains.
Police continue to probe both cases.
