Drishyam-Inspired Murder Plot Foiled: Couple Burn Innocent Man to Fake Woman&rsquo;s Suicide in Gujarat
Patan, Gujarat &mdash; In a chilling tale of love, deception, and a murder gone awry, Patan District Police have arrested a woman and her lover for allegedly killing an innocent man in a botched attempt to fake the woman&rsquo;s suicide and elope undetected.
According to Superintendent of Police Chirag Koradia, the accused &mdash; identified as Geeta Ahir, a married woman, and her paramour Bharat Ahir &mdash; devised a plot straight out of a film script, drawing inspiration from the popular crime thriller Drishyam. Geeta, engaged in an extramarital affair, sought to escape her marital life and start anew with Bharat. But instead of simply running away, the duo allegedly concocted a plan to fake Geeta&rsquo;s death to avoid suspicion and pursuit.
Police briefing revealed that Geeta persuaded Bharat to murder an unknown person, dress the body in women&rsquo;s clothing and jewellery, and then set it ablaze to mislead her family into believing she had died by suicide. The idea, police believe, was to sever all ties and start a new life together without fear of being tracked.
Acting on her instructions, Bharat allegedly targeted an elderly man, later identified as Harji Solanki from a nearby village. He was reportedly strangled and his body transported on a motorcycle to the backyard of Geeta&rsquo;s residence. There, the couple dressed the corpse in a petticoat and adorned it with Geeta&rsquo;s personal ornaments before dousing it in petrol and setting it alight.
However, the plan unravelled when the body did not fully burn, raising immediate suspicions among the authorities. Simultaneously, Geeta&rsquo;s husband had lodged a missing person&rsquo;s report, prompting a police investigation that soon led to the discovery of the half-charred body.
Identification of the deceased as Harji Solanki, coupled with forensic evidence and discrepancies in the couple&rsquo;s accounts, pointed police in their direction.
The accused were apprehended at Palanpur railway station while allegedly attempting to flee to Rajasthan. Both suspects are currently in custody and will be produced before the court on Thursday.
Police described the case as a grim reminder that no crime, no matter how cleverly planned, is beyond the reach of law.
