A Delhi court on Saturday extended the National Investigation Agency&rsquo;s custody of four accused in the Delhi blast case by another 10 days, accepting the agency&rsquo;s request for additional time to continue its investigation.
The accused include Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay and Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather. Following the court&rsquo;s order, all four were brought from Patiala House Court to the NIA headquarters for further questioning.
The blast occurred on November 10 when a car exploded near the Lal Qila Metro station close to Delhi&rsquo;s Red Fort, killing 13 people and injuring several others. The explosion triggered a major security alert and led to a high-level probe into what investigators later described as a well-organised, white-collar terror network with alleged links to Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Officials said arrests made even before the blast across multiple states had already indicated the presence of an interstate terror module. After the explosion, the NIA linked the incident to these earlier arrests, uncovering fresh leads as the investigation progressed.
So far, seven people have been taken into custody in connection with the blast, which involved a Hyundai i20 car driven by Dr Umar Muhammad. The vehicle exploded around 6.52 pm in a crowded area, leaving several vehicles damaged and causing multiple casualties.
Investigators said the four accused whose custody has been extended played key roles in planning and executing the attack. While Dr Shakeel hails from Pulwama, Dr Adeel Rather belongs to Anantnag and Mufti Irfan Wagay is from Shopian, all in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Shaheen Saeed is a resident of Lucknow.
Earlier, the NIA arrested Amir Rashid Ali, the registered owner of the car used in the blast, Jasir Bilal Wani, who allegedly provided technical support, and Soyab, who is accused of giving shelter and logistical assistance to Umar Muhammad shortly before the explosion.
