In a major cybercrime breakthrough, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has dismantled a sophisticated transnational gang that defrauded US nationals of nearly $40 million, arresting three key operatives: Jigar Ahmed, Yash Khurana, and Inder Jeet Singh Bali.
The operation, conducted under Operation Chakra-IV, was coordinated closely with the FBI. The accused allegedly gained unauthorized access to victims&rsquo; computers and bank accounts, posing as tech support and manipulating them into transferring funds to cryptocurrency wallets controlled by the gang.
Investigators conducted extensive searches across Amritsar and Delhi, uncovering an illegal call centre, Digikaps, The Future of Digital, at Global Tower, Amritsar, where 34 individuals were caught in the act. Seized evidence included 85 hard disks, 16 laptops, 44 mobile phones, Rs 54 lakh in cash, and crucial digital documents.
&ldquo;The proceeds were funneled via cryptocurrency,&rdquo; said a CBI official, adding that international cooperation with Interpol and foreign agencies is ongoing to trace the money trail and identify other members of the network.
It is confirmed that Operation Chakra-IV has&nbsp;significantly disrupted this organised cybercrime syndicate, though investigations continue into its broader operations and overseas links.
