The Indian stock market opened on a weaker note on Friday as renewed US tariff concerns triggered selling in key sectors, particularly IT and financial services.
The Sensex has fallen 272.30 points (0.34%) to 80,350.96, while the Nifty 50 slipped 75.60 points (0.31%) to 24,520.55. Analysts flagged both technical and fundamental weaknesses, with the Nifty forming continuous lower lows and no clear signs of a strong earnings revival for FY26.
Market experts say foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are likely to maintain their selling streak amid global trade tensions, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continue to provide support through steady buying.
The Nifty Bank index dipped 124.90 points (0.22%) to 55,396.25, the Nifty Midcap 100 lost 226.10 points (0.40%) to 56,712.20, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was down 62.85 points (0.36%) at 17,629.80.
Despite the weak start, analysts pointed out that Thursday&rsquo;s rebound where Nifty surged over 250 points after an early dip indicates some buying interest. Technically, a sustained move above&nbsp;24,650 could lead to further gains towards 24,850, while immediate support lies at 24,550 and 24,400.
In early trade, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, BEL, Eternal and Axis Bank led the losers, while Titan, Bajaj Finance, Trent and Bajaj Finserv topped the gainers&rsquo; list.
FIIs sold equities worth ₹4,997.19 crore on August 7, while DIIs bought shares worth ₹10,864.04 crore.
Across Asia, markets showed mixed trends, China, Japan and Jakarta traded in the green, while Bangkok, Seoul and Hong Kong slipped into the red.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones fell 224.48 points (0.51%) to 43,968.64, the S&amp;P 500 eased 0.08% to 6,340, while the Nasdaq rose 0.35% to 21,242.70.
