India&rsquo;s electronics industry has witnessed an extraordinary rise over the last decade, growing from just $31 billion in 2014-15 to a massive $133 billion today. This surge highlights the success of the &lsquo;Make in India&rsquo; push and the nation&rsquo;s transformation into a global manufacturing powerhouse.
What once was a market heavily dependent on imports has now evolved into the world&rsquo;s second-largest mobile phone manufacturing hub, with over 300 production units compared to only 2 in 2014. This rapid shift has not only strengthened exports but also generated large-scale employment across the country.
The momentum continues in the current financial year. In the first quarter of 2025-26 alone, electronics exports jumped 47% year-on-year, reaching $12.4 billion compared to $8.43 billion in the same quarter last year. At this pace, experts project that exports could cross $46&ndash;50 billion by the end of FY26.
The mobile phone segment led the charge with a 55% surge, rising from $4.9 billion in Q1 FY25 to an estimated $7.6 billion this year. Non-mobile categories such as solar modules, networking devices, switching apparatus, charger adapters, and electronic components also delivered strong growth, climbing 36% to $4.8 billion.
Policy measures like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP), and close collaboration between states and industry have played a crucial role in this transformation. Together, they have created a robust ecosystem for electronics manufacturing, making India not just self-reliant but a competitive player in global supply chains.
With exports accelerating and domestic manufacturing scaling up, India&rsquo;s electronics sector is on track to become a cornerstone of the country&rsquo;s economic growth story in the coming years.
