India&rsquo;s economy is proving resilient in the face of stalled trade talks with the US and steep tariff measures. Over the past decade, strategic reforms and robust domestic demand have transformed the country into a diversified economic powerhouse.
BJP spokesperson Tuhin Sinha said negotiations collapsed after the US demanded wide-ranging market access for American goods while levying heavy tariffs on Indian exports. India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resisted these terms to protect farmers, MSMEs, and fisheries.
Economists Stuart and Linda Stern note that this stance has preserved core sectors and strengthened India&rsquo;s economic sovereignty. An SBI Research report warned that higher US tariffs could backfire on its economy.
The crisis, Sinha argued, is also an opportunity for India to fast-track technological independence through initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Production-Linked Incentive scheme, which boosted electronics exports by 22% in 2024.
On the geopolitical front, India&rsquo;s refusal to yield has enhanced its standing as an independent power, opening space for deeper engagement with BRICS and potential revival of the Russia-India-China framework. Upcoming diplomatic moves, including PM Modi&rsquo;s SCO Summit visit, signal a strategic balancing act that could shape a multipolar global order.
