Adani Defence &amp; Aerospace has entered a binding collaboration agreement with Sparton (DeLeon Springs LLC), a subsidiary of Elbit Systems and a leading provider of advanced anti-submarine warfare (ASW) technologies. The partnership is aimed at localising the assembly of complex electronic systems and advanced ASW solutions for both Indian and global defence markets.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Adani Group company announced that it has become the first private sector entity in India to offer indigenised sonobuoy solutions. The agreement represents a strategic move to reduce India's longstanding reliance on foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for critical naval technologies.
The collaboration will integrate Sparton's pioneering ASW systems with Adani Defence&rsquo;s capabilities in the development, manufacturing, and long-term support of mission-critical technologies for the Indian Navy.&nbsp;
Sonobuoys, which form the backbone of Undersea Domain Awareness (UDA), are essential for detecting, locating, and tracking submarines and other underwater threats. These devices are crucial for anti-submarine warfare and naval operations, including the protection of carrier strike groups.
Highlighting the significance of the agreement, Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Enterprises, stated that in the current maritime environment, enhancing India&rsquo;s undersea warfare capabilities is not just a strategic priority but a national imperative. He stressed the importance of having integrated, mission-ready intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) and ASW systems that are indigenously developed, rapidly deployable, and globally competitive.
The initiative is aligned with the government&rsquo;s &lsquo;Aatmanirbhar Bharat&rsquo; and &lsquo;Make in India&rsquo; programmes. Sparton's ongoing collaboration with the Indian Navy will now help facilitate the localisation of these solutions by Adani Defence, ensuring they are produced in India for domestic and international deployment.
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence &amp; Aerospace, emphasised that India has historically depended on imports for such technologies, and this partnership marks a crucial step in building indigenous capabilities in the ASW domain. According to him, the integration of world-class sonobuoy technology into India&rsquo;s defence manufacturing ecosystem strengthens national self-reliance in a critical sector.
Reinforcing this perspective, Jeet Adani added that the agreement enables access to advanced technologies while fostering a future-ready and self-sustaining defence environment. &ldquo;The initiative reflects the group&rsquo;s broader vision to equip India&rsquo;s armed forces with state-of-the-art capabilities that are conceived, developed, and delivered within the country,&rdquo; he remarked.&nbsp;
Commenting on the partnership, Donnelly Bohan, President and CEO of Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, said the company brings decades of expertise in advanced engineering and maritime defence manufacturing.&nbsp;
He expressed confidence that the collaboration would lead to the localisation of assembly, development of high-technology skill sets, and delivery of dependable ASW systems tailored to the specific needs of the Indian Navy.
