Jagdish Vishwakarma, also known as Jagdish Panchal, took charge as Gujarat BJP president on Saturday, urging party workers to unite in building a stronger, cohesive organisation and a &ldquo;developed Gujarat.&rdquo;
The announcement was made at the party&rsquo;s state headquarters in Gandhinagar by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in the presence of senior leaders. Vishwakarma, a three-time MLA from Ahmedabad&rsquo;s Nikol seat, was the sole nominee for the post.
He succeeds Union Jal Shakti Minister and Navsari MP CR Paatil, whose term ended in July 2023. Addressing workers, Vishwakarma said, &ldquo;Our effort for a developed Gujarat and a strong BJP must be cohesive, with the cooperation of all workers, to serve the people as Team Gujarat BJP.&rdquo;
An OBC leader, Vishwakarma began his political journey in 1998 as a booth in-charge and has held key organisational roles, including president of BJP&rsquo;s Karnavati unit. He is currently Minister of State for co-operation, MSME, cottage and rural industries, salt industries, protocol, and printing and stationery, besides assisting in other portfolios.
Outgoing president Paatil highlighted the party&rsquo;s successes under his leadership, including the 2022 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel praised Vishwakarma&rsquo;s &ldquo;techno-savvy&rdquo; approach, saying it will help the party achieve its goals.
