The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting widespread unseasonal rain and thunderstorms across Gujarat, expected to continue until May 9. The weather change, which comes as a potential relief from the region&rsquo;s intense summer heat, is attributed to a cyclonic circulation situated over southeast Rajasthan, along with a north-south trough extending down to southern Tamil Nadu.&nbsp;
According to the IMD, the rainfall is expected to be light to moderate in nature, with the intensity set to increase through the week.
Initial forecasts indicate isolated showers will begin over parts of North Gujarat and the Saurashtra-Kutch region on May 3, gradually expanding to include Central and South Gujarat by May 6.&nbsp;
A notable decrease in daytime temperatures, ranging between 2 to 4&deg;C, is also likely to be observed across the state in the next five days.
The IMD has issued a seven-day weather warning for the entire state, including the Union Territories of Diu, Daman, and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli, outlining detailed district-level forecasts for each day.
On May 3 (Day 1), light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30&ndash;40 kmph (in gusts), with light to moderate rainfall, are very likely to occur at isolated locations in the districts of Banaskantha, Patan, and Sabarkantha in North Gujarat, as well as Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Kutch in Saurashtra-Kutch.
On May 4 (Day 2), similar weather conditions&mdash;light thunderstorms with lightning, surface winds of 30&ndash;40 kmph (gusting up to 50 kmph), and light to moderate rainfall&mdash;are expected at isolated spots across Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Tapi, Valsad, and Navsari.&nbsp;
The same applies to Daman and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli, as well as Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Kutch in the Saurashtra-Kutch region.
On May 5 (Day 3), moderate thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30&ndash;40 kmph (gusting to 50 kmph), along with moderate rain, are very likely to affect isolated areas in Patan, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli.&nbsp;
The Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Dwarka, Botad, and Diu are also likely to experience these conditions.
Additionally, hailstorms are expected at isolated places in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, and Chhota Udepur. Hail is also forecast in Saurashtra-Kutch districts including Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, and Kutch.
On May 6&nbsp; (Day 4), moderate thunderstorms with lightning and stronger surface winds of 40&ndash;50 kmph (gusting up to 60 kmph), accompanied by moderate rainfall, are very likely in isolated pockets of Panchmahal, Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, and in Daman and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli.&nbsp;
These weather conditions are also expected across all districts of Saurashtra-Kutch, including Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Dwarka, Botad, Kutch, and Diu.
Hailstorms are again likely at isolated locations in the North Gujarat districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, and Mahisagar, and in the Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, and Kutch.
On May 7 (Day 5), moderate thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 40&ndash;50 kmph (gusting to 60 kmph), accompanied by moderate rain, are forecast for isolated parts of Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Narmada, and Surat, as well as the districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar in Saurashtra.&nbsp;
Similar conditions are also likely in all other Gujarat districts&mdash;Patan, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs&mdash;and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli. Saurashtra-Kutch districts including Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Dwarka, Botad, Kutch, and Diu are also included.
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Narmada, and Surat, along with the Saurashtra districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar.
On May 8 (Day 6), moderate thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 40&ndash;50 kmph (gusting to 60 kmph), with moderate rainfall, are forecast at isolated locations in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Anand, and Bharuch, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar.&nbsp;
The same weather pattern is also expected in Patan, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, and in Daman and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli.&nbsp;
All Saurashtra-Kutch districts including Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Dwarka, Botad, Kutch, and Diu are included as well.
Heavy rain is very likely at isolated places in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Anand, and Bharuch, as well as in Amreli and Bhavnagar.
On May 9 (Day 7), the final day of the current forecast period, light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers are expected at a few locations across all districts of Gujarat region, including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli.&nbsp;
The same applies to every district in Saurashtra-Kutch, including Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Dwarka, Botad, Kutch, and Diu.
The IMD has urged residents across the affected regions to stay alert and adopt necessary safety measures in view of the approaching storms, strong winds, possible hail, and heavy rain expected over the coming days.
