The investigation into the deadly Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has intensified following the recovery of the second black box&mdash;the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)&mdash;from the cockpit debris.
This follows the earlier discovery of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) from the aircraft's tail section. While the FDR provides information on flight performance, the CVR captures vital audio data from inside the cockpit&mdash;conversations, warnings, radio calls, and ambient sounds.
Officials from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirmed that both devices are now undergoing analysis. The CVR is expected to be key in reconstructing the pilots' actions and assessing any mechanical or human errors in the moments leading up to the crash.
P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visited the crash site on Sunday and reviewed the progress of the probe. He also visited Civil Hospital to meet with the injured.
The death toll has now climbed to 270, including 241 passengers and several residents of the Meghaninagar area who were in hostels and nearby buildings when the aircraft crashed.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat government declared a state-wide day of mourning on Monday to honour former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who also perished in the tragedy. The national flag will fly at half-mast, and all official events are suspended.
