A tailor in Gujarat's Valsad was left reeling when he received an electricity bill of Rs 86 lakh - far exceeding the value of his modest shop. Muslim Ansari, who runs New Fashion Tailor in the town's Chor Gali, discovered the shocking amount while attempting his usual UPI payment. The astronomical bill, issued by Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited, was quickly traced to a simple clerical error. Company officials found that a meter reader had accidentally added "10" to the actual reading, resulting in the inflated amount. "There was a mistake. We have now given a revised bill of Rs 1,540," confirmed Hitesh Patel, an employee of the power distribution company, which serves over 32 lakh consumers across seven south Gujarat districts. Ansari, who specializes in men's outfits from shirts to sherwanis, expressed relief at the correction. "The electricity bill for the shop is usually under Rs 2,000," he said, noting that his shop has become a local attraction with visitors photographing the erroneous bill.
