A staggering 2.72 lakh candidates appeared on Sunday for the written exam to fill 12,472 Lokrakshak posts in Gujarat Police, marking a major milestone in the state&rsquo;s 2025 recruitment drive. The vacancies include positions for Unarmed and Armed Constables, Jail Sepoys, and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) personnel.
The exam was held at 825 centres across major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Anand, and Gandhinagar. This round follows the earlier PSI written exam held on April 13, where over one lakh candidates applied for just 472 posts.
Prior to this, physical efficiency tests were conducted across Gujarat. To ensure smooth conduct, authorities deployed over 26,000 personnel, including 8,000 police officers and 18,000 education staff. Every exam centre was under CCTV surveillance, with biometric and photo verification mandatory.
Candidates were asked to report by 7:30 a.m. for pre-exam checks, highlighting the strict adherence to security and transparency. The Gujarat Police Recruitment Board assured the process was being carried out with full fairness.
This recruitment holds social and administrative importance, aimed at strengthening Gujarat&rsquo;s police force amidst growing urban demands. With such a massive response, the selection process is expected to be extremely competitive.
The last Lokrakshak recruitment in 2021 had seen over nine lakh registrations but faced backlash due to a paper leak scandal. The state government reconducted the exam with new protocols, filling around 10,459 posts at that time.
