Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a financial allocation of Rs 489.95 crore for the construction of 2,055 Gram Panchayat houses under the Talati-Cum-Minister Housing Scheme. The initiative aims to ensure that every Panchayat in the state has a dedicated office space.
The state government considers Gram Panchayats the foundation of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system, and this approval is seen as a major step towards achieving full saturation of housing infrastructure at the village level.
Each year, the Panchayat Department earmarks funds from the state budget to build new Panchayat and Talati-Cum-Minister houses in villages that either lack such facilities or have dilapidated structures. New buildings are sanctioned as per the requirements.
Grants are population-based, with villages of more than 10,000 residents receiving Rs 40 lakh, those with populations between 5,000 and 10,000 allotted Rs 34.83 lakh, and villages with fewer than 5,000 people granted Rs 25 lakh.
For the first time, a single sanction of Rs 489.95 crore has been announced across Gujarat, covering 2,055 villages under this cost-structure model. Construction in most Gram Panchayats is expected to begin within this year.
The upcoming Panchayat buildings will include modern amenities, making government services more accessible to villagers. Along with this, the Panchayat Department is also working to expand other schemes to bring additional villages under 100 per cent coverage.
Once the projects are completed, every Gram Panchayat in the state will have its own office, ensuring that rural citizens can conveniently access government services at their doorstep.
