Over a hundred students from J B Desai School in Dehgam, Gujarat, experienced sudden eye-related health issues on Monday, prompting a medical response and an official investigation. A total of 105 children reported discomfort, including blurred vision, eye redness, and excessive tearing, leading to heightened concern within the community.
After receiving the complaints, the school promptly reached out to the local public health centre, following which medical personnel conducted initial examinations on the premises. The students were then transported to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for further treatment.&nbsp;
Doctors confirmed that 12 of the children were diagnosed with more severe eye symptoms requiring closer attention.
Medical staff at the hospital have stated that the condition of the affected students is showing signs of improvement. Once their health stabilises fully, they will be discharged gradually following follow-up checks. In the meantime, health officials collected blood samples from several children for laboratory analysis.
A team remains stationed at Dehgam&rsquo;s primary health centre, which has been placed on alert to respond swiftly if any additional cases emerge. Preliminary observations suggest that the outbreak may be linked to contamination in either the food or drinking water provided at the school.
Samples of the midday meal consumed by the students, along with water from the campus, have been taken for testing. Authorities confirmed that all affected students are currently under observation while the cause is being determined.
