A 19-year-old engineering student at the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) of Baroda in Vadodara was found dead in an apparent suicide in a university hostel on Sunday morning.&nbsp;
The deceased, identified as Abhishek Sharma, was a second-year student of the Faculty of Technology at the state-run university. He hailed from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Fatehgunj police sub-inspector R B Baraiya, Sharma had recently lost his father, which had left him visibly upset and withdrawn in recent days. &ldquo;This could be the reason behind his extreme step,&rdquo; Baraiya said.
Sharma&rsquo;s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in the hostel's common room, where students usually gather. &ldquo;He was found hanging from the fan using a bedsheet,&rdquo; Baraiya said.&nbsp;
The incident took place early Sunday morning, and police reviewed CCTV footage to understand the sequence of events.
&ldquo;In the CCTV footage, he was seen walking towards the room and hanging himself using a table and a bedsheet at around 6.30 am Sunday when nobody was around,&rdquo; Baraiya added.
The body was subsequently sent to a government hospital for postmortem examination and later handed over to a relative residing in Vadodara.
