<p data-start="0" data-end="226"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Health authorities have expressed concern following a rise in dengue cases at construction sites and labour colonies in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), where extensive mosquito breeding has been detected.</span></p>
<p data-start="228" data-end="551"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">So far this year, 26 dengue cases have been officially recorded in GIFT City, making up nearly half of all rural cases reported in Gandhinagar district. Inspections by the District Malaria Officer revealed stagnant rainwater and debris around labour colonies, which have become prime breeding grounds for mosquito larvae.</span></p>
<p data-start="553" data-end="950"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">District Development Officer (DDO) BJ Patel confirmed that immediate measures are being implemented. Speaking to Benefit News, Patel said: &ldquo;We noticed the sudden spike in dengue cases and we did a survey. After the survey, we found out that the root cause is at the construction sites. We instruct the officials at GIFT City to take proper measures and address this issue on an immediate basis.&rdquo;</span></p>
<p data-start="952" data-end="1111"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">According to official records, Gandhinagar district has registered 68 dengue cases this year, with 26 cases, or 47 per cent, concentrated in GIFT City alone.</span></p>
<p data-start="1113" data-end="1262"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Additionally, the health department reported that in the last eight months, the district has recorded 30 malaria cases and one case of chikungunya.</span></p>
<p data-start="1264" data-end="1564"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Health teams have stepped up door-to-door surveillance, patient screening, fogging drives, and larvicide spraying in high-risk areas. Guidelines also recommend using pyrethrum for fogging instead of cypermethrin, and ensuring that suspected patients are referred promptly to primary health centres.</span></p>
<p data-start="1566" data-end="2014"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Medical Officer of Health at Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr Kalpesh Goswami, said the overall trend in the district is improving despite the spike in GIFT City. He stated: &ldquo;If we see dengue cases in the Gandhinagar region, this year till now, we have registered 68 cases. Last year, in 2024, it was around 150 cases. So there is a sharp decrease in the dengue infection rate. This is a good sign even if there is heavy rainfall this year.&rdquo;</span></p>
