The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a spell of intense rainfall activity over Gujarat and its neighbouring Union Territories beginning June 30 and continuing through July 5. Several districts are expected to experience heavy to very heavy downpours at isolated locations during this period, with alerts ranging from yellow to orange being announced in specific areas.
On the opening day of the forecast period, rainfall is anticipated at isolated locations in Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.&nbsp;
The following day, July 1, similar weather patterns are likely to impact Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and coastal regions such as Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, alongside previously affected districts.
As the week progresses, rainfall is set to intensify further. On July 2, Navsari, Valsad, and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli may receive very heavy showers, while other districts including Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu are forecast to record heavy rainfall.
On July 3, heavy to very heavy precipitation is expected to impact Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Other areas, such as Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Dang, Tapi, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu, may experience heavy rainfall.
The weather on July 4 is forecast to bring significant rainfall to Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Anand, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.&nbsp;
The wet spell is expected to continue on July 5, affecting Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Kutch, and the adjoining Union Territories.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued a marine weather advisory along the Gujarat coastline, warning of turbulent sea conditions and high winds, extending through July 4. The advisory applies to both the North and South Gujarat coasts, including adjacent maritime zones.
From June 30 to July 3, the North Gujarat coast &mdash; covering Jakhau, Mandvi, Mundra, New Kandla, Navlakhi, Jamnagar, Salaya, Okha, and Porbandar &mdash; will face squally conditions, with wind speeds ranging between 45 and 55 kmph and gusts touching 65 kmph. These speeds are projected to decrease slightly to 40&ndash;50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, on July 2 and 3. No warnings have been issued for July 4 in this region.
The South Gujarat coast, comprising Muldwarka, Veraval, Diu, Jafrabad, Pipavav, Victor, Bhavnagar, Alang, Bharuch, Dahej, Magdalla, and Daman, is forecast to experience similar marine conditions. Wind speeds of 45 to 55 kmph, with gusts reaching 65 kmph, are expected on June 30 and July 1.&nbsp;
Between July 2 and 4, these winds may slightly ease to 40&ndash;50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph. Fishermen operating along both coastal belts are strongly urged to avoid venturing into sea waters during this period.
Open sea areas of the Arabian Sea are not exempt from this spell of volatile weather. Widespread squally conditions are forecast across the eastcentral, westcentral, northeast, and northwest sectors of the Arabian Sea from June 30 to July 4, with wind speeds varying between 45 and 55 kmph and gusts likely to peak at 65 kmph.
In addition, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has raised alerts concerning high waves for multiple coastal zones within Gujarat. The stretches likely to be impacted include Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, the northern coast of Junagadh (from Shil to Chorwad), Porbandar (between Tukda Miyani and Madhavpur), and the southern parts of Junagadh (Nava Bandar to Saiyad Rajpara), where waves could rise to 4.5 metres.
INCOIS has advised that small fishing boats should remain docked under these conditions and that all recreational activities near the shore should be temporarily halted until the sea stabilises.
