<h3 data-start="196" data-end="256">Gujarat government declares major relief for farmers</h3>
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a ₹10,000-crore relief and compensation package for farmers across Gujarat whose crops were damaged by unseasonal rainfall during the last week of October.
The untimely downpour, said to be among the most severe in two decades, has impacted nearly 42 lakh hectares of farmland across 16,000 villages, devastating standing crops and pushing cultivators in several districts to financial distress.
The decision followed a series of high-level meetings chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by senior officials from the agriculture, revenue, and finance departments. Earlier, Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani convened a preparatory session where officials presented field assessments and recommendations.
After reviewing survey data from district administrations, the Chief Minister cleared what is now the largest farmer-assistance package in Gujarat&rsquo;s history. He affirmed that the government &ldquo;stands firmly with the sons of the soil&rdquo; and remains committed to mitigating their losses.
<h3 data-start="1350" data-end="1400">Procurement of major crops from 9 November</h3>
Alongside the relief package, the state government will initiate large-scale procurement of groundnut, maize, tur and soybean at minimum support prices (MSP) from 9 November, valued at more than ₹15,000 crore.
Minister Vaghani confirmed that farmers will be notified via SMS to deliver their produce at designated centres. Each farmer will be permitted to sell up to 125 man (around five tonnes) of groundnut at ₹7,263 per quintal. Additional sub-centres will be established to ensure smooth operations.
He added that nearly 9.5 lakh hectares have been brought under groundnut cultivation this year, compared to 3.5 lakh farmers who registered for procurement last year. All procedures will adhere to central guidelines to guarantee transparency and fairness, providing much-needed relief to cultivators grappling with heavy losses.
