An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and disposing of her body in a well in Gujarat&rsquo;s Kutch district. The incident occurred in Nana Varmora village of Bhuj taluka, police officials said.
The accused has been identified as Mohsin Maman, while the victim was his 19-year-old wife, Kulsum Maman. The couple had been married for two years. Kulsum&rsquo;s father, Ramju Maman, filed a complaint at the Madhapar police station in Kutch West after his daughter was found dead.
According to police investigations, Mohsin was involved in an extramarital relationship with another woman for several years, which reportedly continued even after his marriage. Frequent disputes between the couple arose due to this relationship, and the accused allegedly viewed his wife as an obstacle to his plans of marrying the other woman.
Police said the crime took place on Friday night. Mohsin allegedly slit his wife&rsquo;s throat using a sharp weapon, placed her body in a sack, and transported it on a motorcycle to a nearby farm where he worked. He then dumped the body into a well on the premises.
The case came to light on Saturday morning after Kulsum was reported missing around 7 am. Her family, who live approximately 200 metres away, began searching for her. During the search, her clothes were spotted floating in a well at the farm, leading to the recovery of her body.
Police confirmed that the couple were first cousins. Investigators have recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime, along with the motorcycle used to transport the body. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
