A case of cheating has emerged from Mansa after a local salon owner and his friends were allegedly defrauded of Rs 23.8 lakh under the pretext of a European tour, which was later downgraded to a Dubai trip.
The complainant, Mayur Limbachiya from Charada village in Mansa taluka, runs Krupa Hair Salon. In 2022, he planned an international holiday with his wife and three friends, Navneet Nayee, Akash Govindbhai, and Bhupatsinh Akherajsingh.
During preparations, Mayur contacted his cousin Rohit Limbachiya, a Mumbai resident, who allegedly assured him that he had reliable contacts for arranging foreign travel. Rohit soon arranged a video call introducing two Mumbai residents, Shyamsunder Parab and Jainam Shah.
According to the complaint, Shyamsunder posed as an official linked to the US Consulate, while Jainam was introduced as his subordinate. Convinced by their claims, the group proceeded with the plan.
The victims handed over Rs 23.8 lakh in instalments to Rohit, Shyamsunder, and Jainam. However, the promised European tour never materialised. Instead, citing visa delays, the accused offered a Dubai trip as an alternative.
Although a Dubai tour was organised, the group alleged it was far below the promised arrangements. Despite repeated follow-ups, only their passports were returned, except for the passport belonging to Rohit&rsquo;s father. Rohit also gave a written undertaking to refund the money but failed to honour it.
Nearly three years later, Mayur lodged a complaint at the Mansa police station.
An investigating officer confirmed, &ldquo;A case of cheating has been formally registered against the three accused. We are in the process of verifying the financial transactions and collecting relevant evidence.&rdquo;
He added, &ldquo;Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accused misrepresented their credentials and made deliberate false promises. Legal action will proceed in accordance with the findings.&rdquo;
The investigation is underway, though no arrests have been reported yet.
