An email threatening to bomb the Gujarat High Court triggered a high-security alert in Ahmedabad on Monday, prompting a complete lockdown of the premises and immediate suspension of post-lunch court proceedings.
Authorities sprang into action after a threatening message was received in the inbox of a court official. The court administration promptly alerted security forces, leading to the swift arrival of the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad, who began an intensive search throughout the complex.
All gates to the court building were sealed off as part of emergency safety protocols, with a thorough screening initiated for every person and vehicle attempting to enter. Public access was suspended temporarily, while search teams scoured the entire vicinity for any suspicious object.
Senior officers from the Ahmedabad Police and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad rushed to the site to monitor the response. Zone-1 Deputy Commissioner of Police Safin Hasan confirmed that a suspicious individual had sent the email to a High Court address. "The Cyber Cell has been assigned to identify the origin of the message, and investigations are actively ongoing," said Hasan.
Although no explosives were located during the preliminary inspection, officials are treating the situation with caution. A cyber inquiry is underway to trace the sender behind the bomb threat.
Following the security development, court operations were suspended for the remainder of the day. A formal statement issued by the Registrar General conveyed, &ldquo;Because of unavoidable circumstances, it has been decided to discontinue the functioning of the Courts after lunch, i.e. after 1.45 pm. The Courts are requested to convey to the lawyers that they are not functioning after lunch and also that all will have to leave the premises, as early as possible, as a security check of the whole Court premise is required.&rdquo;
The decision was endorsed by the Chief Justice in view of the continued inspection required across the premises.
