Gujarat, India&rsquo;s leading groundnut-producing state, is projected to maintain its production at 46.07 lakh metric tonnes (MT) in the Kharif 2025&ndash;26 season, according to the SEA Groundnut Promotion Council.
The survey, conducted between October 9&ndash;11, 2025, under the leadership of Vinod Patel, Dr B.V. Mehta, and Rajesh Ankola, covered major districts across Saurashtra and North Gujarat. The team evaluated pod quality, crop maturity, irrigation patterns, and pest impact through on-field sampling and farmer interactions.
While the cultivated area has increased from 19.09 lakh hectares in 2024&ndash;25 to 22.02 lakh hectares, productivity has dropped from 2,210 kg/ha to 2,092 kg/ha, primarily due to a mid-season dry spell followed by heavy rains. The expanded acreage has offset the yield dip, keeping production stable at last year&rsquo;s level.
According to district data, Rajkot recorded the highest production at 7.43 lakh MT, followed by Jamnagar (6.33 lakh MT), Junagadh (5.27 lakh MT), and Dwarka (5.15 lakh MT). Regions like Amreli, Banaskantha, and Kutch also reported steady output despite climatic fluctuations.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for groundnut stands at ₹7,263 per quintal, though mandi rates for good-quality varieties remain below MSP at ₹3,600&ndash;₹4,500. Farmers are urging NAFED to step up procurement to stabilise prices.
Meanwhile, Gujarat&rsquo;s soybean area declined from 3.08 lakh ha to 2.78 lakh ha, and nationwide Kharif oilseed acreage fell by 10.62 lakh ha this season.
The SEA report highlights Gujarat&rsquo;s resilience in oilseed farming and calls for enhanced MSP implementation and climate-adaptive measures to sustain farmer incomes.
