The Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP), Vikas Sahay, has appealed to citizens to avoid approaching the sealed crash site of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, to ensure that the ongoing investigation remains undisturbed.
With the crash zone now under strict cordon, authorities are prioritising rescue operations, evidence recovery, and coordination with international teams, including Boeing and US aviation experts.
DGP Sahay expressed gratitude to volunteers but stressed that further civilian access could hamper forensic and aviation findings.
Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi also confirmed that recovered personal belongings of victims will be catalogued and returned respectfully. "These items hold deep emotional value. We are committed to returning them promptly," he said.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), along with DGCA and international bodies, is spearheading the technical analysis of the crash.
Meanwhile, the structurally damaged hostels at B.J. Medical College have been vacated to facilitate the probe. Dean Dr. Minakshi Parikh said relocation has been arranged for over 180 resident doctors, with alternate accommodations in UN Mehta Hostel, the old GCRI building, and rented rooms.
