The Gujarat government has significantly expanded its agricultural assistance initiatives this season, with Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi announcing that groundnut procurement and power-supply support for farmers are progressing at the highest levels seen so far.
After a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday, Sanghavi revealed that the state has already purchased more than 1.62 lakh metric tonnes of groundnuts, valued at over Rs 1,177 crore, from more than 70,000 farmers. Payments for these purchases are being transferred directly into farmers&rsquo; bank accounts.
<h3 data-start="784" data-end="836">Record Registrations and Broader Relief Packages</h3>
According to Sanghavi, registrations for MSP groundnut sales have crossed 9.31 lakh, marking an almost eight-fold rise compared with the previous year. With a strong groundnut harvest in the state, the Chief Minister had requested enhanced procurement from the Centre, following which approvals were granted for Rs 15,000 crore worth of purchases and permission to buy up to 125 maunds per farmer.
The cabinet also reviewed progress on two major agricultural relief packages.

A Rs 10,000 crore scheme launched earlier this year to compensate for crop losses due to unseasonal rainfall has received more than 10 lakh applications through the VCE portal.

Another Rs 1,138 crore package, announced after heavy rainfall in September 2025 across five districts, has drawn 1.25 lakh online claims.

Both schemes provide equal financial aid for irrigated and non-irrigated land, offering Rs 22,000 per hectare for up to two hectares. Farmers in Vav-Tharad and Patan who need land-improvement work will receive an additional Rs 20,000 per hectare.
<h3 data-start="1924" data-end="1992">Nearly Universal Daytime Power Access; Extra Hours for Rabi Crop</h3>
At a separate public event, Chief Minister Patel stated that almost all farmers in Gujarat now receive daytime electricity supply, crediting earlier agricultural power reforms introduced when Narendra Modi served as Chief Minister. Patel said 98 per cent of cultivators currently have access to daylight power, with the remaining areas expected to be fully covered before March 2026.
To support Rabi sowing, the cabinet has approved extended electricity hours for key crop belts. From November 20, 2025, cumin-producing regions will receive 10 hours of power daily instead of eight, benefiting more than 49,000 agricultural consumers across about 1,090 villages. These areas include Viramgam, Mandal, Bechraji, Sami, Harij, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur, Santalpur, Lakhtar, Dasada, Suigam, Vav and Halvad.
Additionally, Dahod and Garbada talukas will receive 12 hours of daily power, supporting 9,758 farmers in 191 villages as the Rabi season ramps up.
