A tragic incident unfolded in Kalol Taluka on Saturday morning after two young girls were found dead in a canal, while their father, a local businessman, remains missing. Police have launched an extensive investigation to determine the cause of the deaths and the whereabouts of the missing man.
According to officials, the deceased were the daughters of Dhiraj Rabari, a resident of Borisana village who owned three petrol pumps, including one located at Vadsar. On November 7, Dhiraj reportedly left home with his daughters, aged four months and nine months, saying he was taking them to have their Aadhaar cards made.
When the trio did not return by evening and Dhiraj&rsquo;s phone went unreachable, family members filed a missing persons complaint at the Santej Police Station. A search operation was immediately launched. Later that night, authorities discovered Dhiraj&rsquo;s car abandoned near the Sherisa stretch of the Narmada canal, prompting a joint rescue effort by police, divers, and the fire brigade. No one was found at the time.
The following morning, the bodies of the two infants were recovered from the main canal near Piyaj village under Kalol Taluka Police Station limits, after an hour-long operation. The remains were sent to Kalol Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, the results of which are expected within a week.
Inspector Sajjan Muchhal of Santej Police Station told Benefit News, &ldquo;Upon receiving the complaint, police reached the scene without delay. No suicide note has been found. The family is financially well-off. Statements from the wife and relatives will be recorded in Kalol. The father is still missing.&rdquo;
Preliminary findings suggest that before disappearing, Dhiraj had shared his car&rsquo;s location and mobile password with his family. Investigators are currently treating the case as an accidental death, though emotional or personal distress factors are also being examined.
Police continue search operations to trace Dhiraj Rabari and complete the necessary legal procedures. Authorities say the post-mortem results will help clarify the exact cause of the girls&rsquo; deaths.
