Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday flagged off 201 new State Transport (ST) buses from the Gandhinagar depot to strengthen public transportation in Gujarat. The new fleet comprises 136 Super Express buses, 60 Semi-Luxury buses and five Midi buses, which will be deployed on various routes across the state.
Minister of State for Transport Harsh Sanghavi joined the event, where the ministers greeted drivers and conductors before the buses began their inaugural journeys.
The Chief Minister also announced the rollout of 4,200 additional buses during the upcoming Diwali festival to accommodate the expected surge in passenger traffic.
According to Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), the transport body recently operated over 28,000 trips for the Bhadarvi Poonam fair at Ambaji, 22,000 trips during the Pavagadh Asho Navratri celebrations, and more than 7,000 trips for Janmashtami.
GSRTC currently runs more than 8,000 buses daily, covering over 33 lakh kilometres and serving around 27 lakh passengers. With the new additions and special festive services, the state government aims to ease travel and improve connectivity for citizens during the festive season.
