Gujarat witnessed one of its darkest days on June 12, 2025, with the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Amid ongoing rescue operations, a silent yet critical force was at work&mdash;the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team. Their swift, scientific, and emotionally driven response became the backbone of the victim identification process.
Acting on Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel&rsquo;s directives, the FSL team reached the crash site promptly. As dismembered remains were rushed to Civil Hospital Ahmedabad, the FSL experts immediately coordinated with hospital authorities to begin DNA sample collection from both victims and their relatives.
FSL Director H.P. Sanghvi stated that this was not just another case&mdash;it was about restoring dignity and offering hope to families. Experts from FSL units in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Surat were mobilised. A total of 54 DNA specialists, including 22 women, began non-stop work at both the lab and hospital.
Despite personal challenges, the team worked around the clock. One expert, whose mother was critically ill, and several mothers of toddlers, continued their duties tirelessly. Their dedication helped identify victims within 72 hours&mdash;a process that once took over a week.
Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, visited the lab and lauded the team's dedication. He highlighted how the latest DNA technology and FSL&rsquo;s committed staff turned an overwhelming task into a mission of hope.
The FSL&rsquo;s work ensured that grieving families could perform last rites for their loved ones promptly. In this moment of immense sorrow, the team&rsquo;s behind-the-scenes efforts brought clarity, closure, and a deeply human touch to a scientific endeavour.
