The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in close coordination with Gujarat Police, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has successfully brought back wanted fugitive Harshit Babulal Jain from the United Arab Emirates.
Jain, who was facing charges of tax evasion, illegal gambling, and money laundering, was deported from the UAE and handed over to Gujarat Police at Ahmedabad International Airport on Friday.
He was declared a fugitive after Gujarat Police initiated action against him, leading the CBI to secure a Red Notice against him through INTERPOL on August 9, 2023. Red Notices issued by INTERPOL are shared globally with law enforcement agencies to help track and apprehend wanted criminals.
The CBI, functioning as India&rsquo;s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, coordinated the extradition through its BHARATPOL system, which serves as a central channel of communication for all law enforcement agencies in India.
Officials highlighted that Jain&rsquo;s return marks another success in India&rsquo;s intensified efforts to bring back fugitives hiding overseas. In recent years, more than 100 wanted criminals have been repatriated to India through similar coordination efforts via INTERPOL channels.
Authorities said Jain will now face investigation and legal proceedings in Gujarat as per the charges against him.
