Ahmedabad Civil Hospital is conducting post-mortem examinations following the crash of the Air India aircraft carrying 242 people just minutes after it took off from here, officials announced on Friday.
Since Thursday evening, a group of 70 to 80 doctors, including staff from the Ahmedabad Primary and Community Health Centres, Gandhinagar, Anand, Nadiad, and Civil Hospitals, have been working nonstop, according to officials.
Following identification, the bodies are sensitively and with complete dignity given to the bereaved family.
Five fatalities have been identified, and their remains have been given over to their families as of Friday morning.
Two people from Rajasthan, two from Bhavnagar, and one from Madhya Pradesh are among them.
As additional family members show up to help identify their loved ones among the dead, the process continues.
To enable prompt identification, the hospital management has asked the deceased's close family members and relatives to provide DNA samples.
Since many of the victims were severely charred in the tragedy, officials say the DNA testing is being utilised to identify remains.

A day after her husband died in the sad crash of Air India flight AI-171, Anjali Rupani, the wife of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, arrived in Ahmedabad from London on Friday morning.
Harsh Sanghvi, the Gujarat Home Minister, met her at the airport and expressed his sympathies.
A month prior, a scheduled flight from Ahmedabad to London had been cancelled due to serious mechanical issues with the identical Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI-171) that crashed.
Due to frequent technical issues that interrupted their journey, customers at the time expressed grave worries about the airline's reliance on older aircraft. Passengers on flight AI-171 had a difficult experience on that day.
After passengers waited inside the aircraft for over two hours, the flight, which was scheduled to leave Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1.10 p.m., was cancelled. In anticipation of a seamless foreign departure, many had arrived early. The air conditioning occasionally turned off, making the circumstances oppressive for passengers on board, and boarding didn't start until 2:00 p.m.
The airline staff failed to provide any clear information on the delay or a revised departure time despite numerous enquiries.
Passengers were eventually notified that a technical problem was forcing the cancellation of the trip. Despite Air India's announcement of complete refunds, many were irate.
