An email threat warning of a bomb at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad triggered a full-scale emergency response on Tuesday. The message, received by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, led to the immediate deployment of police units, the fire brigade, and bomb disposal squads to the site.
Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad Crime Branch, stated: &ldquo;Crime Branch has received a bomb threat email regarding Ahmedabad airport. Search is underway and nothing suspicious has been found so far. Police and fire brigade are at the spot.&rdquo;
Security teams carried out comprehensive checks throughout the airport. As a precautionary measure, airport staff and passengers were temporarily relocated to safe areas while the premises underwent inspection. Officials confirmed that no suspicious items were discovered during the sweep.
According to an airport representative speaking to&nbsp;Benefit News, the email lacked specific details and merely mentioned a &ldquo;bomb kept in Terminal 1&rdquo;. Describing the content as vague and non-specific, the official added that senior authorities conducted an emergency review, and standard protocols were implemented across the airport.
Dr Lavina Sinha, DCP, Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell, confirmed to&nbsp;Benefit News&nbsp;that the city&rsquo;s cyber unit is currently investigating the origins of the email.
Similarly, Surat Police also received an email on the same day, alleging that bombs had been planted at two schools &mdash; GD Goenka School and Lancers Army School. In response, bomb squads were dispatched, and both institutions were evacuated. Students were given the day off, and searches were conducted; however, no explosives or hazardous materials were found.
Ahmedabad Airport has faced similar threats in the past. On June 29, an email claimed that an improvised explosive device was concealed within the bathroom pipelines. A second, similar message followed just nine days later. Both were ultimately deemed hoaxes but caused temporary disruption to airport operations.
Meanwhile, last week saw yet another threat &mdash; this time aimed at the Gujarat Chief Minister&rsquo;s Office (CMO) and the state secretariat in Gandhinagar. An email sent to a government official on July 17 threatened to blow up the complex.
Speaking to&nbsp;Benefit News, Deputy Superintendent of Police Divyaprakash Gohil said: &ldquo;The Gandhinagar police, along with the CM security wing, swung into action on the same day and conducted a thorough search in the entire premises with the help of the bomb detection and disposal squad and other agencies.&rdquo; The search yielded no suspicious findings, confirming it to be another hoax.
Several public institutions in Gujarat, including schools, lower courts, and even the High Court, have recently been targeted by bomb threats &mdash; all of which have proven to be false alarms.
