An estimated 5.85&ndash;7.31 million seniors above 65 in the state face what experts call a &ldquo;silent epidemic&rdquo;polypharmacy, frailty, memory decline, and overwhelming medical costs. With India&rsquo;s elderly population projected to reach 30&ndash;40 crore by 2050, outnumbering newborns the question looms large: will they live healthy, or simply survive?

For Meena, the change is tangible. Her medications have been streamlined under a single care plan. &ldquo;I feel seen,&rdquo; she smiles, the weight on her spirit finally lifted. Her daughter adds, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s like having a doctor who understands Ma&rsquo;s entire life, not just her symptoms.&rdquo;
But Meena&rsquo;s story reflects a broader reality. Gujarat&rsquo;s aging population is rising rapidly, yet geriatric care remains limited to a few private hospitals. Government programs like the National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE) have begun bridging the gap, but rural seniors still remain largely underserved.
