The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has made automatic vehicle washing machines operational at 33 depots throughout the state to ensure comprehensive cleaning of all categories of state transport buses. These include sleeper, express, Volvo, and mini buses, which are now being washed both internally and externally using these newly installed machines.
The corporation has implemented this initiative at depots located in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Sanand, Anand, Kapadvanj, Nadiad, Borsad, Dakor, Khambhat, Rajkot, Gondal, Wankaner, Morbi, Tharad, Deesa, Siddhpur, Radhanpur, Deodar, Mehsana, Patan, Kadi, Unjha, Vadnagar, Kalol, Dwarka, Bhuj, Mandvi, Anjar, Nakhatrana, Bhavnagar, Palitana, Mahuva, and Botad.&nbsp;
The aim is to uphold cleanliness standards for buses operating across shifts throughout the day and night.
Furthermore, preparations are underway to commission seven additional machines at depots in Khambhaliya, Valsad, Himmatnagar, Godhra, Vadodara (Panigate), Dahod, and Ughna. The transport body also revealed its future plan to equip 40 more depots with such washing facilities.
The upcoming installations will include Amreli, Bagasara, Kodinar, Savarkundla, Una, Dabhoi, Chhota Udepur, Padra, Bodeli, Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Jambusar, Rajpipla, Baria, Halol, Lunawada, Santrampur, Jhalod, Bayad, Bhiloda, Idar, Khedbrahma, Mansa, Modasa, Jetpur, Junagadh, Keshod, Mangrol, Porbandar, Veraval, Bijapur, Balasinor, Bardoli, Mandvi (Surat), Songadh, Surat (City), Bilimora, Dharampur, Navsari, and Vapi.
GSRTC has procured a total of 80 automatic vehicle washing machines at an overall expenditure of Rs 11.80 crore, with each unit costing upwards of Rs 14 lakh. These machines are designed to clean the front, sides, and rear of a bus within a span of five to seven minutes. The project has been undertaken with the goal of enhancing passenger satisfaction by providing a cleaner and more hygienic commuting experience.
Separately, in a move to address increased travel demand during the summer vacation period, GSRTC operated additional express bus services between May 1-31, 2025. According to a release issued by the state government, over 8 lakh passengers availed themselves of this service.
As part of the extended summer schedule, more than 1,400 supplementary express buses were deployed daily to connect major urban centres across Gujarat. These included nearly 500 services from Surat to Saurashtra, around 210 linking Saurashtra with North Gujarat, approximately 300 connecting South Gujarat with North Gujarat, and another 300 trips catering to diverse destinations within Saurashtra.
Increased passenger flow was also observed on interstate routes, particularly on services operating between Gujarat and the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
